TRIVIA!!!! WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THE HAIR ON A DOGS BACK (HACKLES) STANDS UP?????

The answer to last weeks trivia question.. (What breed of dog is known for having double due claws??) is the Great Pyrenees and/or the Beauceron. This question was answered correctly by Herbie and Benjamins Mom!!!!!!! Enjoy your free day Angel!!! There are also a few other breeds who share this trait, everyone should look them up!

Well....Benjamin raises his hackles when he is very excited and during play, but herbie raises his hackles when he is feeling all big and bossy and thinks he is being challenged. Maverick raises his hackles when he is feeling threatened or fearful. The key is probably to read the rest of the dogs language in deciding what message your mohawk puppy is sending :)

You are absolutly correct in your thought that dogs raise hackles for all different reasons...But what single thing is your dog telling you? You almost said it.

I'm the mom of Lola (the black German Shepherd with her hair ruffled)--I've noticed she does that every time she gets excited. Not hostile or angry, just excited about anything.

Oh, one last comment--it means the dog is trying to look BIGGER!
